What is Putumayo Kids?

Putumayo Kids is committed to introducing children to other cultures through music from around the world. As the children’s and educational division of Putumayo World Music, Putumayo Kids has established itself as one of the leading children’s record labels.

With its growing collection of CDs featuring multilingual liner notes, Putumayo Kids produces music that entertains, educates and inspires cultural curiosity. More than 3 million Putumayo Kids CDs have been sold in nearly 100 countries. At least one percent of CD sales benefit non-profit groups that support children, families, schools and other charities. Putumayo World Music has contributed more than $1 million dollars to non-profit organizations that do good work in the regions where the music comes from.

 

How Do I Know This Music is Good for Kids?

For each release, Putumayo Kids’ music experts choose songs with child-friendly lyrics and rhythms by both renowned and undiscovered international artists.  Putumayo Kids tests songs in the field with real kids and parents.  The international music selection contributes to the education of future global citizens while holding true to Putumayo’s mission of sharing music that is “guaranteed to make you feel good.”

Every year, Putumayo Kids CDs receive many national honors, including awards from Parents’ Choice, National Parenting Publications (NAPPA), Oppenheim Toy Portfolio  and American Library Association Notable Recordings for Children.  Our CDs regularly make the “Best of the Year” lists in educational and parenting magazines like Child, Parenting, Family Fun, the United Parenting Publications and many online parenting sites.

What is Putumayo Kids Educational Commitment?

Thousands of elementary school teachers and more than 300,000 students use Putumayo Multicultural Activity Kits and CDs in the classroom. Putumayo has also provided multicultural teacher training programs to school districts. The company has donated thousands of CDs and kits to schools and various causes. For each new Putumayo Kids release, at least one percent of Putumayo’s proceeds benefits relevant non-profit groups that support children, families, schools and other charities.

 
Does Putumayo Kids present concerts?

Putumayo Kids presents family music events to celebrate new albums and our featured artists.  We have recently hosted concerts featuring Asheba (Reggae Playground), Brady Rymer (Folk Playground), Justin Roberts (Folk Playground) and Charmaine Neville (New Orleans Playground).
